Our Beginning

The MHC World story began in 1959 with the opening of Metro Fabrics in Church Street, Pretoria, opposite the State Theatre.

During its early years, the business faced several challenges and relocated more than once. It later traded from Du Toit Street and then from the corner of Du Toit Street and the former Schoeman Street under the name Metro Home Fabrics.

The Development of Metro Home Centre

As the business expanded, its product offering grew beyond fabrics and haberdashery. In 1986, Metro Home Fabrics underwent a major transformation and became Metro Home Centre.

The new identity reflected the company’s growing range of products for the home and everyday living. Over time, the business continued to introduce additional departments, trusted brands and services to meet the changing needs of its customers.

Becoming MHC World

Metro Home Centre later evolved into MHC World, representing a broader and more modern retail experience—a world of products available in one store.

Today, customers can shop across a wide range of departments, including appliances, electronics, computers, gaming, kitchenware, linen, curtains, fabrics, furniture, décor, lighting, fashion, footwear, luggage and other home and lifestyle essentials.

MHC World’s main physical store is located in Pretoria. Through our online store, customers throughout South Africa can also browse and purchase from our extensive product range.
