Appliances & TV Returns and Warranty | MHC World

Appliances and TV Returns & Warranty Policy

This policy applies to televisions, major appliances, small appliances and related electrical products purchased from MHC World.

It must be read together with MHC World’s general Returns and Refunds Policy, the manufacturer’s warranty terms and applicable South African consumer-protection laws.

1. Change-of-Mind Returns

A product returned because the customer has changed their mind may be considered within 7 days of delivery or collection, provided that:

  • The product is unused and has not been installed or connected
  • The product is complete and in its original condition
  • The original packaging, accessories, manuals and components are included
  • Valid proof of purchase is provided
  • The product is suitable for resale as new

Approved change-of-mind returns may be subject to collection, delivery or other reasonable charges where permitted by law.

Products that have been used, installed, damaged, altered, scratched or returned with missing packaging or accessories may not qualify for a change-of-mind return.

2. Defective or Unsafe Goods

Customers retain their rights under the Consumer Protection Act. Where a product is defective, unsafe, of poor quality or not reasonably suitable for its intended purpose, the matter will be handled in accordance with applicable law.

A product may need to be inspected by MHC World, the supplier, manufacturer or an authorised service centre to determine:

  • The nature and cause of the reported fault
  • Whether the fault is a manufacturing defect
  • Whether the damage resulted from misuse, impact or external causes
  • Whether the product was installed and operated correctly
  • The appropriate remedy available under the circumstances

An inspection does not remove a customer’s statutory rights. MHC World will communicate the outcome of the assessment and the available remedy once the assessment has been completed.

3. Manufacturer’s Warranty

After any applicable statutory remedy period, products may remain covered by the manufacturer’s warranty for the period stated by the manufacturer.

Manufacturer warranties generally cover manufacturing defects and do not ordinarily cover:

  • Accidental or physical damage
  • Cracked or damaged screens
  • Power surges, lightning or unstable electrical supply
  • Water, moisture, dust, insects or corrosion
  • Misuse, negligence or failure to follow operating instructions
  • Incorrect installation or connection
  • Unauthorised repairs, alterations or tampering
  • Normal wear and tear

Warranty conditions differ between brands and products. The final warranty assessment may be completed by the relevant supplier, manufacturer or authorised service centre.

4. Televisions

Customers should inspect the television and packaging as soon as reasonably possible after delivery or collection.

If the television or screen appears cracked, damaged or impacted on delivery, do not install or switch it on. Report the matter immediately and provide clear photographs of:

  • The television screen
  • The complete television
  • The outer and inner packaging
  • The serial-number label
  • Any visible damage to the box

Cracked screens and impact damage are not normally manufacturing defects. Claims involving screen damage may therefore require inspection to determine when and how the damage occurred.

A television with physical damage caused after delivery or collection may not qualify for a refund, exchange or manufacturer’s warranty.

5. Gas Appliances and Installation Certificates

Gas appliances must be installed by a suitably qualified and registered gas installer where installation or connection is legally required.

A valid Certificate of Conformity or other legally required installation document may be requested for a warranty claim where the reported fault could reasonably be related to installation.

Failure to provide installation documentation may delay the assessment. Warranty cover may be declined where an assessment shows that the fault was caused by incorrect, unsafe or non-compliant installation.

6. Incorrect, Incomplete or Damaged Deliveries

Please report an incorrect item, missing component or visible delivery damage as soon as reasonably possible.

Please provide:

  • Your order number or proof of purchase
  • A description of the issue
  • Clear photographs of the item
  • Photographs of the packaging
  • The model and serial number
  • Photographs of any damaged areas

If an incorrect or visibly damaged item is identified before acceptance, the customer may record the issue on the delivery note or refuse delivery where appropriate.

7. Items That Have Been Installed or Used

Products that have been installed, connected or used cannot ordinarily be returned solely because the customer has changed their mind.

This does not prevent a customer from lodging a claim where the product is defective, unsafe or otherwise fails to meet the standards required by applicable law.

8. Proof of Purchase

Proof of purchase is required to process a return, exchange, repair or warranty claim. This may include:

  • An MHC World tax invoice
  • An online order confirmation
  • A till slip
  • Another record that reasonably confirms the transaction

9. Collection and Inspection

Depending on the product and location, the customer may be asked to return the item to MHC World, make it available for collection or allow an authorised technician to inspect it.

The customer must package the item safely for collection where reasonably possible. Collection or redelivery charges may apply to change-of-mind returns or claims where no product defect is found.

Where a valid defect or incorrect delivery is confirmed, the appropriate remedy will be provided in accordance with applicable law.
