Solar, Inverter, Battery & Generator Warranty Policy
Solar, Inverter, Battery and Generator Warranty Policy
This policy applies to solar equipment, inverters, batteries, generators and related energy-saving products purchased from MHC World.
It must be read together with the manufacturer’s warranty conditions, MHC World’s general Returns and Refunds Policy, and all applicable South African consumer-protection laws.
1. Professional Installation Requirements
All inverters, batteries and permanently connected solar or backup-power systems must be installed by a suitably qualified and registered electrical contractor or registered person authorised to perform the relevant work.
The installation must comply with:
- The manufacturer’s installation instructions
- The Electrical Installation Regulations
- The applicable requirements of SANS 10142-1
- Any other relevant electrical, safety and municipal requirements
Where required, a valid electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) must be issued for the installation.
2. Documents Required for a Warranty Claim
To assess a warranty claim, MHC World or the manufacturer may request:
- Proof of purchase
- The product model and serial number
- A copy of the valid Certificate of Compliance, where applicable
- Proof that the installation was completed by a suitably qualified and registered installer
- Clear photographs of the product and complete installation
- Photographs of protection devices, wiring and connections
- A fault description, error codes or technical report
- Maintenance and service records, where applicable
Failure to provide reasonably required installation or technical information may delay the assessment of the claim.
Where the claimed fault appears to be related to an incorrect, non-compliant or unsafe installation, warranty cover may be declined after assessment by MHC World, the supplier, manufacturer or an authorised technician.
3. Installation and Protection Requirements
The system must be installed in accordance with the specifications of the particular manufacturer and the requirements of the site.
Depending on the product and installation, the system may require:
- Correctly rated AC and DC isolators
- Correctly rated circuit breakers
- Suitable fuses on battery connections
- Appropriate surge-protection devices
- A correctly installed changeover or transfer switch
- Correct earthing and bonding
- Suitable ventilation and operating clearances
- Protection appropriate to the installation’s calculated electrical ratings
The exact ratings and equipment required must be determined by the responsible installer and the manufacturer’s specifications. Customers should not rely on general figures as a substitute for a proper site assessment and installation design.
4. Circumstances That May Not Be Covered
Subject to applicable law and the manufacturer’s warranty, damage or failure caused by the following may not be covered:
- Incorrect, incomplete or non-compliant installation
- Failure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions
- Incorrect wiring, polarity, configuration or programming
- Undersized or incorrectly rated protection devices
- Power surges, under-voltage or over-voltage
- Lightning or electrical-storm damage
- Incorrect earthing or bonding
- Water, moisture, condensation or flooding
- Corrosion, sea spray or chemical exposure
- Dust, sand, insects or other foreign particles
- Excessive heat, poor ventilation or blocked filters
- Weather exposure where the product is not rated for such exposure
- Accidental damage, impact, misuse or negligence
- Unauthorised repair, alteration or tampering
- Broken security seals
- Use outside the product’s specified operating limits
- Lack of required maintenance
5. Batteries and Storage
Batteries must be stored, charged, used and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Batteries may lose charge or suffer permanent damage when left discharged or unused for extended periods. Where applicable, batteries should be recharged at the intervals specified by the manufacturer.
Customers should not assume that charging once a month is suitable for every battery type. The product manual and manufacturer’s instructions must always be followed.
6. Returns and Exchanges
Unused products may only be considered for return in accordance with MHC World’s general Returns and Refunds Policy and applicable law.
Products that have been installed, connected, programmed, modified, scratched, damaged or used cannot ordinarily be accepted as an ordinary change-of-mind return.
This does not limit any rights a customer may have where goods are found to be defective, unsafe or not reasonably suitable for their intended purpose under applicable South African law.
7. Warranty Assessment Process
Warranty claims are subject to inspection and technical assessment. MHC World may refer the product or supporting information to the supplier, manufacturer or an authorised service centre.
The assessment will determine whether the fault is:
- A manufacturing or product defect
- An installation-related fault
- Damage caused by external conditions
- Damage caused by misuse, tampering or inadequate maintenance
MHC World will advise the customer of the outcome and the available remedy once the assessment has been completed.
8. Before Submitting a Claim
Please prepare the following information:
- Your order number or proof of purchase
- The product model and serial number
- A full description of the fault
- Any error messages or fault codes
- Clear photographs and videos of the product and installation
- The installer’s details
- The Certificate of Compliance, where applicable
