What Are Wallpapers Used For

Wallpaper is used in interior decoration to cover the interior walls of domestic and public buildings. It is usually sold in rolls and is applied onto a wall using wallpaper paste. Wallpapers can come plain as "lining paper" so that it can be painted or used to help cover uneven surfaces and minor wall defects thus giving a better surface, textured, such as Anaglypta, with a regular repeating pattern design, or, much less commonly today, with a single non-repeating large design carried over a set of sheets.

Wallpaper printing techniques include surface printing, gravure printing, silk screen printing, rotary printing, and digital printing.

Wallpaper is made in long rolls which are hung vertically on a wall. Patterned wallpapers are designed so that the pattern "repeats", and thus pieces cut from the same roll can be hung next to each other so as to continue the pattern without it being easy to see where the join between two pieces occurs.

Wallpapers Through the Ages

During the Renaissance in Europe, wallpaper made with woodblock printing became popular among the new upper class. Wealthy people still put big banners on their walls, just like they did in the Middle Ages.

These fabrics gave the room colour and acted as a layer of insulation between the stone walls and the room, keeping the heat in the room. But tapestries were very expensive, so only very wealthy people could buy them.

Early wallpaper had pictures that looked like those on tapestries. Large pieces of paper were sometimes hung on the walls like tapestries and sometimes stuck on like they are today. Prints were often stuck to walls instead of being framed and hung, and the biggest sizes, which came in several sheets, were probably made to be stuck to walls.

England and France were the most important countries in Europe for making wallpaper. One of the oldest examples we know of was found on a wall in England. Before that, English aristocrats had always bought textiles from Flanders and Arras, but trade with Europe dropped after Henry VIII's break with the Catholic Church. Since there were no textile makers in England, both the rich and the rich turned to wallpaper.

During Oliver Cromwell's Protectorate, the Puritan government stopped making wallpaper because they thought it was a waste of time. After Charles II was restored to the throne, wealthy people in England started asking for wallpaper again.

By the beginning of the 20th century, wallpaper was one of the most commonly used home goods in the Western world. Since about 1930, wallpaper has gone in and out of style, but the overall trend has been for decorative wallcoverings like wallpaper to lose ground to plain painted walls.

At the start of the 21st century, wallpaper became a source of light, with lights and crystals adding to the mood and atmosphere. With digital printing, artists can break the rules and mix art with new technology to make wallpaper even more popular. Now we offer an extensive set of patterns to choose from when looking at wallpaper for sale.

Benefits of Wallpaper

Wallpaper can be a great addition to a modern interior design project, especially if the style of the room changes often. This could be a house whose owner likes to make a lot of changes to the surroundings in a short amount of time. It could also be a business, like a clothing shop, where the decor changes with the seasons.

Another important reason to use wallpaper is that it always gives the room more depth and a unique touch, especially if it has a design.

Wallpaper backgrounds give rooms more depth and style. In general, patterns, colours, and even fabrics can make a room feel bigger or at least draw attention to a certain spot. So, it is interesting to think about comparing images for small-space projects.

Pretty wallpaper will give your home subtle or bold colour and character.

Different Types of Wallpaper for Sale at MHC World

You can choose from three main types of wallpaper: solid vinyl, vinyl-coated, and natural patterned. Each one has its own unique qualities. Every room is different, but one of these papers should be just what you need.

Solid Vinyl Wallpaper

Solid vinyl wallcovering has a vinyl front and a paper or fabric back. It is very sturdy and easy to clean. Solid vinyl comes in every colour and pattern you can think of, both unpasted and already pasted. This is your answer for places with a lot of traffic. If a room is open to the public or needs to be cleaned often, thick vinyl wallcovering will last longer and be stronger.

Vinyl Coated Wallpaper

The vinyl-coated paper has a vinyl covering that helps it stay clean and not get wet. The coating can cover patterns, colours, and designs, or they can be a part of the coating. Grease will not stick to these wall covers, which makes them easier to clean than plain paper. These covered wallcoverings work well in a lot of rooms. Especially in bathrooms and kitchens, vinyl-coated wallpaper would be a good idea.

Natural Textured Wallpaper

Grass cloths and string cloths are two types of natural-textured wallpaper that can give your room a warm, real feel. These wallcoverings are made from both natural and man-made fibres. Since they do not work well with steam and wetness, they are best for places that do not get much use and are dry.

True glass cloth and string cloth wallpapers cannot be cleaned like other wallpapers, but you can still keep them clean with things like dry cleaner brushes and wallpaper dough.

How to Choose Which Wallpaper Pattern to Buy

For a formal look, choose big patterns in bold colours. For a fun, bright look, choose small patterns with open spaces between them, like polka dots. Do not forget that borders can look nice. Borders are a quick way to set the theme of a room. They come in all sorts of styles and themes, from sports scenes to rural scenes to pictures of animals.

Stripes and other vertical designs, which draw attention to height, give the impression of formality, respect, and energy. Patterns that go up and down, like flower designs with a V or U form, will make the ceiling look higher. Horizontal designs emphasise width, make small rooms look bigger, and give the impression of peace and quiet.

Small patterns make a room feel more open, while large patterns make a room feel cosier. Choose big patterns with bright colours and dark backgrounds to make an empty room look like it has more furniture. Try a big, open pattern like a vine on a flat wall to make it look like it has depth.

Mix and match carefully. A room with no designs can be boring, while a room with too many patterns can make you feel restless. When putting stripes, florals, or plaids together in the same room or next to each other, choose designs that repeat the same colour or different shades of the same colour. Most wallcovering books group patterns by colour to make it easy to match them.
