Description

Organdy is a cotton fabric that is see-through, lightweight, and crisp. It is woven using an open, plain weave and very fine, tightly twisted single yarns.

Organza is the main alternative to organdy, and these types of fabrics are distinct due to the fibers used in their construction. While organdy can only be made with cotton, organza can be made with silk or a variety of synthetic fibers.

Organdy is an acid stiffened cloth. Its sheerness and crispness is the result of an acid finish, where the fabric is treated with sulfuric acid solution for a short period and then neutralized to remove excessive acid. The process is named "parchmentising".
